Announcement of broadcast of NHK Sunday Art Museum “Minami Tada: Light, dignified swaying”

“Zuiko” is what you see when you step into the lobby of Olive Bay Hotel.
This is a work created by Minami Tada, one of Japan's leading sculptors, in her later years.
This time, "Zuiko" will be introduced in NHK's "Sunday Art Museum Minami Tada, Ding to Yureru" program.
This program is taking a look at Ms. Tada's charm as her large-scale exhibition ``Minami Tada - Light, Dignified Swaying'' is currently being held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
What kind of art did Minami Tada pursue as a painter and sculptor? I will unravel it through my works.
Even if you are unable to visit from afar, why not take this opportunity to experience the real work at Olive Bay Hotel?
Broadcast date: October 11, 2026 (Sunday) 9:00-9:45 (planned)
Rebroadcast: October 18, 2026 (Sunday) 20:00-20:45 (planned)
Program introduction
The light emitted by the structure is not just a light, but reflects, refracts, fluctuates, and fuses with the surrounding architecture, making it a true "sculpture of light." Sculpture artist Minami Tada (1924-2014) left over 500 works in various public buildings, including museums, parks, stations, and hotels. After the war, Tada began his career as an avant-garde sculptor. What was revolutionary was the use of industrial products such as aluminum and acrylic as materials. In order to produce large-scale sculptures, he established the Tada Minami Research Institute and created a production system that brings together staff and company engineers. At a time when it was difficult for women to make a living as artists, she opened up possibilities for art that no one had ever done before.
Because Tada's works are integrated with architecture, they have not been viewed squarely in the context of orthodox art history. This fall, when Tada's large-scale exhibition will be held, we will take a closer look at the charm of this one-of-a-kind "art of light."
